Hi Everyone,
I am currently training for a marathon (up to 13 miles) and believe I will be in shape by Jan 7th for the Crystal Springs Trail Run marathon. However, I do not run on trails all that often and not for more than a few miles at a time. Do you think this event will not be suitable as my first marathon?
Thank you, Geraldine

Geraldine, Regarding Crystal Springs, I ran the marathon in August when we had a bit of heat which always throws in a different element. It's a pretty good test for your first, but you seem to be getting prepared with adequate time. Without knowing your base/history I think at some point you have to incorporate more trail running and feel the difference. It helps strengthen many different muscles, ankles, knees, etc. that are less of a factor on the flat. You should get your self to a point where you can go try at least 18+miles on the trails to see how your body responds, learning the best ways to 'refuel/rehydrate while you run. It's a beautiful course! I think learning ways to slowly simulate the run/distance/terrain has worked best for me. David
